June 15 Update from Jason Tavarez
We’re open, and we’re COVID safe.
On June 15, the State of California lifted most mask requirements for vaccinated people and ended limitations on capacities for businesses and places like sports stadiums. Vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks in many public places.
Westmont may now hold classes indoors with no capacity restrictions and welcome visitors to campus for tours and other activities for prospective students, and tour groups may now enter buildings such as residence halls. Vaccinated individuals are now allowed to meet indoors without a face covering; unvaccinated individuals will be required to continue wearing a face covering while indoors. Face coverings are not required for outdoor activities but are recommended for unvaccinated individuals when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
The college strongly encourages anyone not yet vaccinated to wear a mask to protect themselves. In addition, we ask people who are ill with symptoms such as a fever, cough, congestion or a sore throat, to stay away from campus until they recover. The college will continue to comply with best practices identified by California, Santa Barbara County and the Center for Disease Control.
Following COVID-19 protocols helped Westmont complete an entire academic year with students living and learning on campus. We conducted 8,909 COVID-19 tests during the year with a positivity rate of 1.16% and avoided major outbreaks. Westmont was one of the few schools in California to safely offer outdoor, in-person classes.

Warrior Strong Our COVID-19 Plans
Masked and Mighty
Westmont joins countywide healthcare and education partners as a member of the “Masked and Mighty” campaign to educate, unite and incentivize improving the health and economy in Santa Barbara County while reducing the transmission of COVID-19.
Warriors – Mask Up!
When it comes to face masks, Westmont has you covered! In fact, Westmont has expanded its face covering options to include four different designs to show your Warrior pride while following state and county health requirements. The face masks are FREE to all students, faculty and staff at the admissions lobby of Kerrwood Hall. Alumni and parents may purchase one through the Westmont Bookstore. The fabric, which meets CDC requirements for COVID-19 protection, is incredibly comfortable and breathable, and easily washable. Remember, true Warriors smile with their eyes.
We're all in it together to #protectthemont.
The safety of our Westmont community remains our highest priority. With discipline and commitment, we'll get through this together.
Congratulations to our student winners of the #protectthemont film competition!
