"Different Here" Warriors Wrap Up Spring Season


Basketball

Men’s basketball (18-12, 14-8) fell in the PacWest Tournament championship game and finished shy of receiving a NCAA DII West Regional berth. Aidan Mandel ’27, whose 52 blocked shots rank third in program history, won the WESPY Breakout Player. Jarrett Bryant ’26 led the team offensively, averaging 15.6 points per game. The team also won for Moment of the Year with an inspired victory over Hawaii Pacifi c in which Warrior Chase Collins ’27 lost a tooth in the final second from contact with an opposing player, who was ejected. Transfer Trey Thompson ’26 won the Newcomer of the Year WESPY.

Women’s basketball (21-9, 16-6) concluded a successful season after falling to top-seeded Vanguard in the PacWest Championship
semifinals. Lisa Kiefer ’26, who repeated as PacWest Defender of the Year, joined Jazmyn Shipp ’28 on the All-PacWest Second Team. Molly Garnand ’27 received All-Conference honors as a third-team selection. Kiefer concludes her Westmont career in then top-10 of 10 different defensive categories. Sage Kramer ’26, who earned the Dean’s Award at Commencement, finished her career with numerous top-10 scoring and rebounding records.

Baseball

The Warrior baseball season (29-21, 25-17) ended at the PacWest Championship Tournament, which Westmont hosted at CarrnField for the first time. Isaac Veal ’27 powered the offense and led the team with a .347 batting average, .987 OPS, 38 runs and 60 hits. Jesse Di Maggio ’28 led the Warriors with 13 HRs and 43 RBIs. Joey Rico ’27 and Caden Beloian ’27 anchored the pitching staff. In the bullpen, Brandon Tatch ’28 (2.42 ERA) picked up eight saves and Josh Hickey ’27 (3.16 ERA) posted a 5-1 record. Second-year head coach Paul Svagdis hopes to retain all his starters in 2027. Baseball won the WESPY for Team Service Award.

Tennis

Three men on the Warrior tennis team earned All-Conference Team honors, including Driss Sedrati ’27 (Singles Second Team) of Casablanca, Morocco, and Diego De Cooman ’26 (Singles Third Team) of Ottignies, Belgium. Sedrati and JD Drake ’29 of Shoreline, Washington, made the All-PacWest Doubles Second Team. Jon Ball ’28 and Arjun Sivakumar ’29 won the WESPY for Dynamic Duo-Men.

The women’s tennis team, with four starting first-year students and a sophomore, finished the season winning eight matches for the first time since 2022. “I’m super proud of the progress we made throughout the season,” said fi rst-year head coach Sheila Snyder. “They finished the season playing their best tennis.” Sabina Salva ’26 won the Captain’s WESPY.

Golf

In its first-ever NCAA DII West Regional appearance, women’s golf posted the field’s best final-round score to climb into a tie for 11th place, led by senior Sydnee Magpoc’s tournament-low 70. Karis Haltom ’27 finished tied for ninth overall, a stroke away from qualifying for the National Championship, capping a historic season for the rising program. Two weeks prior, Hannah Camara ’26 became the first Westmont golfer to win a PacWest Conference Individual Championship with a three-day total of 216 (E).

Men’s golf, which entered the PacWest Conference Tournament as the No. 7 seed, surged to a third-place finish highlighted by a tournament-best final round of 281. Three top-10 individual finishes fueled the team’s late-season momentum, including freshman Jose Licon’s bogey-free 67, which led the field on the final day. A month before, Fernando Jimenez ’28 posted a one-over-par 217 in three rounds to win the RCA Electric Spring Invitational at the Coyote Creek Golf Club. Nicholas Rocha ’28 earned the Captain’s WESPY.

Track & Field

A memorable season for the track and field teams concluded at the PacWest Championships in San Diego with six All-PacWest performances and numerous personal records. The men secured a fifth-place overall finish with 65 points, led by Gabe LaBorin ’27 with a third-place decathlon score of 6,416 points, which featured a world-class 1,500-meter time. Hunter Skoglund ’29 earned All-Conference honors in the 1,500 meters, while Joshua Lin ’27, who previously broke the 600-meter program record, placed third in the 400 meters with a career-best 48.01. John Sakaguchi ’28 leapt to a third-place finish in the long jump, further fueling the men’s scoring surge. The women’s team took seventh, headlined by standout Janelle Wanliss ’29, whose third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Macy Billinger ’29 added to the podium total by claiming third in the pole vault, while captain Charlotte Williams ’26 provided career-best performances and steady leadership in the relays. Head coach Russell Smelley praised the team’s camaraderie and gallant competitive spirit, noting that an array of best performances signals a bright future. Lucas De Dora ’26 and Madeleine Koenig ’28 won Comeback Players of the Year WESPYs. David Oyebade ’26, who won the Dean’s Award at Commencement, broke college records in hammer throw and weight throw (35 lb).

Swim

Led by a record-breaking performance, the women’s swimming team secured a sixth-place finish at the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships. Kimberly Greene ’29, who shattered a five-year-old school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle to take fourth and Grace McAnear ’27, who finished eighth, both stood on the All-PCSC podium. The two won a WESPY for Dynamic Duo, and Greene, who also broke the program record for 1,000-yard freestyle, earned a second WESPY for Newcomer of the Year. Other highlights included record-breaking performances: Kate Spraul ’28 in the 200-yard freestyle; Katlyn McCurtain ’26 in the 200-yard backstroke; Noelle Landon ’28 in the 100-yard backstroke; and Spraul, McCurtain, Willow Pezone ’27 and Daisy Marquardt ’26 in the 4x200-yard freestyle relay. The Warriors beat the Nanooks of Alaska Fairbanks for the first time in program history. This thrilling meet in January won the Moment of the Year WESPY.

STUNT

Head Coach Ariana Johnson has amassed an impressive inaugural STUNT team that will launch this fall. One of the fastest-growing women’s sports in the nation, STUNT combines the athleticism of cheer, dance and gymnastics while celebrating teamwork, precision and strength.
