WESPYs Celebrate the Warrior Spirit

The Inaugural Westmont WESPYs delivered an unforgettable evening of celebration, reflection and Warrior spirit, bringing together more than 300 student-athletes, coaches and staff inside Murchison Gymnasium. Inspired by ESPN’s iconic ESPY Awards, the WESPYs recognized excellence in Warrior Athletics in categories such as performance, leadership and character.
Hosted by Jacob Norling ’20, assistant director of athletics communication and creative content, the night featured awards, highlight videos, student presentations and heartfelt speeches that celebrated the stories behind the stats. From walk-up songs to red-carpet photos, the WESPYs combined Westmont’s trademark class with a touch of Hollywood flair.
Individual honors include the Captain’s WESPYs, presented to one male and one female student-athlete whose seasons embodied excellence in performance, leadership and character. This year, Taylor Distelberg ’25 (volleyball) and Zach Yates ’25 (baseball) received this award, each a cornerstone of their program on and off the field.
Other highlights included the Moment of the Year, which went to the men’s soccer team for their dramatic comeback win to clinch the PacWest Championship, and Newcomer of the Year, given to swimmer Kate Spraul ’28.
With plans already underway for next year’s event, the WESPYs will become a lasting Westmont tradition that celebrates athletic achievement and the full story of what it means to compete the Warrior way.
