Fourteen graduating art majors will present their capstone projects in an exhibition that exhibition that reencounters their cultural identity, family history and patterns, and art historical traditions from April 9-May 9 in the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art. There will be a free, public opening reception for “Reencounter” on Thursday, April 9, from 4-6 p.m. in the museum.
“The 14 artists in the exhibition have each developed a cohesive body of work over the academic year, exploring themes of familial relationships, the fleeting nature of memory, and attentiveness to the beauty of everyday life,” says Meagan Stirling, associate professor of art and chair of the art department.
The projects span a range of media, including charcoal drawing, oil, acrylic, watercolor, ceramics, woodcut and screen printing, and multimedia installation.
The talented students include Geneva Asenjo, Katie Mayhew, Elyona Brown, Kailea Najera, Diego Castañeda, Ella Oostema, Dustin Ells, Arianna Rheault, Elena Everest Sophie Southard, Jada Harper, Marco Valdez, Julia Lottes and Makena Wick.
Ken and Francie Jewesson sponsor the exhibition.
