Club Information:
Mission Statement: Our mission is to: 1) Provide a hands-on opportunity for students to learn about and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices. 2) Initiate sustainability efforts on campus. 3) Supplement the campus dining service with fresh, campus-grown produce. 4) Cultivate deeper compassion for God's creation.
Vision Statement: Education and service are the dual purposes fundamental to the role of our club. The student leadership wishes to develop, with the help of our advisor, a "club curricula" to teach participants about subjects including soil science, native ecology, and biodynamic approaches to agriculture. We envision the integration of this educational experience with the practices of taking care of the garden allowing for a holistic exploration, a convergence of idea and impact. The garden provides the platform through which students will learn and teach, serve and lead, with the expectation that this experience will enhance student life and strengthen Westmont's community by furthering relationships between faculty and students, campus and city, person and environment, gardener and God. So far this semester, the garden has produced 180 lbs of produce and students have put in 225 service hours in total. We are proud of these accomplishments, and we plan to continue increasing productivity in the coming year.
