Candidate Recruitment and Support Statement

The Education Department, in collaboration with admissions and departmental colleagues, is actively involved in the recruitment for our Teaching Credential Programs. Evidence of our recent recruitment efforts can be found below:

The Education Department pays particular attention to diversifying the California educator pool. Our candidate pool has diversified over the past ten years--a reflection of both our department’s purposeful recruitment and support, but also the significant institutional efforts to diversity the student body and become a hispanic-serving institution.

The small size of our program provides the opportunity for extensive support for our candidates prior to admittance, throughout the credential year, and in some cases,  into their first years of teaching. All Education Faculty serve as advisors and collaborate in bi-weekly department meetings to monitor student progress and identify support for struggling students.
