Student Spotlight Bethany Le

Bethany Le ’19 began singing with her mom and playing music with her family in Carlsbad, Calif., at an early age. “It’s a big passion of mine,” she says. “It speaks to my soul.” The computer science major sings in the choir, with the chamber singers and the chapel band, and enjoys playing the piano and guitar.

Last summer, she conducted research to develop new ways of analyzing data on income inequality, using calculus, linear algebra, topology and programming. She appreciates the breadth of her Westmont classes. “I’m gaining the kinds of skills and abilities required to succeed in any field,” she says.

“My favorite part about Westmont is the people,” she says, especially drinking tea or coffee and exploring Santa Barbara with friends. “They’re deep thinkers and hard workers, but they also like to have fun. There is an air here of going all out, whether it’s taking a few classes too many or going on a weekend trip when you don’t really have time.”
